Stucco is a wonderful finish for walls in a Southwestern Home

Stucco exterior walls

Stucco is a wall covering method used often in Southwestern homes. This versatile finish can be used on exterior walls or interior, depending on your preferences. It can be applied to ceilings and walls, or just to a single feature wall, your imagination should be your guide.

It’s a durable finish that stands the test of time, and compared to flat, lifeless painting this is a very interesting option to consider. It’s easier to keep clean because the uneven surface doesn’t provide a smooth surface to collect stains.

There are a number of do-it-yourself sites that post information on how to stucco walls, and it appears quite simple to accomplish. You can buy it at Home Depot, or any hardware store. You’ll find it near the paint section. If you’re not a do-it-yourself type, just pick up the phone book and call a local contractor. Painters and plaster contractors will be happy to create just the effect you want in your home.

This finish can be applied to new construction, or it can be layered over old timber walls, brick or plaster to create a brand new look. So it can renew your home and make it fresh and clean looking while still projecting that rustic look that your Southwestern home deserves.

With the eyes of the world focused more and more in green, earth-friendly alternatives for everything from automobile fuel to food and even our homes, one company caught my eye. Their product is non-toxic, odor free, mold resistant and has a VOC of 1. They are called Tobias Stucco and they have a complete listing of locations that sell their product. If you’re interested in preserving the earth for future generations, like we are, here’s a great way to do it.
